Description:
Log Builder caulking was specifically designed to stretch and compress in order to absorb all log movement. It can be used around doors and windows, in the cracks of your wood or during the log stacking process. Log Builder has been the choice of professionals for over 25 years. Finally, it is a water-based material that is environmentally friendly.

Caulking Application Tips:

1. Start with dry logs. Their moisture content should be below 20%.
2. Apply log stains before installing the caulking material.
3. Clean your logs prior to applying any caulking material. Any loose debris, dirt, dust or grease could adversely affect the adhesion of your chinking.
4. Install backer rod before applying any log home caulking products. Backer rod is available in closed cell and open cell forms.
5. Select a caulking material that is going to be compatible with your log home stain. If you are unsure about the compatibility of your log caulking and your log home stain then speak with the manufacturers of both products.
6. Do not apply caulking in direct sunlight. This could lead to blisters in the material.
7. Apply 2 to 3 feet of material at a time and then work the material with a foam brush or trowel.
8. Use a spray bottle to mist the caulking if it dries too quickly.
9. Clean as you go. Soap and water can be used if the material has not dried.
10. Caulking should not be installed to a depth greater than 1/4”.
11. Avoid caulking in the rain or when rain is imminent.
12. Caulking should not be applied when temperatures are below 40° or when subfreezing temperatures are expected within 48 hours of application.

What is the difference between chinking and caulking materials?

Chinking is an elastic sealing material that has a coarse surface which is designed to look like old-fashioned mortar and is typically used on larger joints. Caulking is a highly elastic sealing material that has no surface texture and is mainly used in smaller joints.

Water Resistance
In most conditions, Log Builder forms a water resistant skin within 4 hours, depending on humidity and temperature. If applied in temperature lower than 50°F and/or in relative humidity higher than 70%, Log Builder must be covered with plastic sheeting for 3-5 days before exposure to rain.

Application Range
40°F - 120°F (Surface temperature). Ideal range: 50°F - 90°F.

Paintability
Log Builder is paintable with latex coatings in 4 hours, with oil-based coatings in 5 days.

Compatibility
Log Builder will adhere to woods treated with most preservatives including borates**, pentachlorophenol, and copper compounds. Log Builder is also compatible with insulating glass sealants and most building materials, including foam insulation.

Shelf Life
18 months from date on carton when stored at room temperature.

Be cautious of areas where snow builds up around the structure and remains for extended periods of time. Snow removal is recommended for these areas to ensure the ultimate adhesion of Log Builder. Sashco will test any stain to determine compatibility with Log Builder. Just call and send us a sample of the stain you want tested. Test results available in a minimum of 6 weeks.
