Closed cell round backer rod primarily serves as a backing for caulking material. Additionally, it promotes 2-point sealant adhesion while it controls the depth of the caulking material. Finally, closed cell round rod can be used on the interior or exterior of your log structure.

Closed cell round backer rod should be installed in the joints of your logs free from all contaminants, loose materials, and dry and free from frost. Install under 5% compression to offer a good tooling base. Systems can be installed without the fear of out-gassing associated with polyethylene.

Do I really need backer rod?
Yes. Backer rod allows your sealant material to acheive 2-point adhesion which provides your sealant greater elasticity. As your logs move and settle your sealant needs to compensate for this expansion and contraction. Simply put, backer rod helps your sealant perform at its highest level.
